Mysterious Attacker Attacked MongoDB Databases For Ransom

Recently, reports say that an attacker who is not known by his/her original name, however, going by the name of Harak1r1 is hijacking MongoDB Databases. Attackers found to steal and replace the original content and asking for ransom to return the data. These attacks reportedly have been found happening for more than a week and hit servers all across the globe. The security researcher Victor Gevers first reported this mysterious attack. According to Gevers’s reports, MongoDB server was left open to external connections without a password on admin account. It was observed that attackers had accessed the unprotected database, exported its content and replaced all the data.
